When we decided to rebuild “the old house” on our 12 acre patch at Bellarine the one thing we were both quite definite about was that we wanted the new house to appear the same from the roadway as the original as this is what attracted us to the property in the first place.  It was not until we read about Farm Houses of Australia that we felt that we could achieve this.

The team at Farm Houses were very patient with us and listened to what we wanted.  After some trial and error they cam up with a design which fitted our criteria – visually the same as the old house – high pitched roof, verandahs and open fireplace being just a few.

Being able to see all aspects of the design in the planning stage was very helpful as we just kept going back to what “the old house” was like.  After visiting Farm Houses’ office and seeing the workmanship that had gone into the “Ferny Hill” home we were more than happy to use Construction By Law Pty Ltd as our Builder.

From the very start of the job everything was planned to mesh together and we have nothing but praise for Doug and his team.  Everyone took ownership of the job – making suggestions on how to improve things as they cropped up and finding ways around any problem that arose.  Northing was too big or too small for any of the trades people working on the house.

We love the outlook especially on a wet and windy day with the rain lashing the windows and the trees blowing whilst we are warm and safe inside.

The “new house” looks a lot grander but has a warm and homely feel – we are sure it will be standing firm in another 130 years just like its predecessor.
